1) Workshop: Japanese Collage

Course Description: Here's a workshop where you can never make a mistake! Using wheat paste as the adhesive, you will learn traditional Japanese collage on washi papers. This workshop is chock full of information and fun! All levels welcome.
2) Workshop: Transfer Techniques

Course Description:A lot of exciting things happen in this one-day workshop, where you'll learn various techniques for transferring your favorite images to special papers. You'll use your own imagery from toner-based copies of your photos, artwork, text, etc. and take home a collection of images on different papers and surfaces to use on other art projects. We will explore the following creative techniques: Tape transfers and transfers using acrylic mediums and gels.
3) Workshop: Open Vats

Course Description: Paper makers of all levels are welcome at this evening workshop. Learn the basic steps of paper making and make as much paper as you can in two and a half hours!
4) Workshop: Suminagashi/Turkish Marbling

Course Description: Create swirling patterns of color and capture them on handmade linen paper, colorful rice papers and silk fabric. We will cover traditional methods of Japanese Suminagashi Marbling and practice a more modern method using Boku and Undo colors. Additionally, we will learn the preparation of acrylic paints, the use of sizing and alum, as well as explore the many combed patterns used in Turkish marbling.
5) Workshop: Momigami and Paste Painting

Course Description:Join us for this workshop exploring two unique techniques for decorating. Momigami is an ancient Japanese technique of coating kozo paper with konnyaka paste, then crumpling and kneading, thus creating millions of wrinkles and ridges. Participants will also learn the 18th century decorative art form of Paste Painting, which combines wheat starch, water, and pigments. This will be used to create intricate patterns on paper
6) Workshop: Family Bookmaking

Course Description: Work side by side with your son, daughter, niece, nephew or friend to create your own hardback albums. You will each make your own book by hand from start to finish. This is a fun introduction to the art of bookmaking. Your album can be used to hold your favorite summer memories, including the time you shared at this workshop.
7) Workshop: Assorted Paper Crafts

Course Description: In this workshop you will learn how to make assorted paper crafts, such as origami boxes. You will use flowers and other mediums in stationary stamping and other crafts.

9) Workshop: Silk Scarf Marbling
Instructor: Richard Aldorasi
Date and Time: Monday, July 30 10AM-4PM

Course Description: We will apply acrylic paint, using broom-straw brushes and applicator bottles, to a thickened water base, creating marbled surfaces and printing them; the workshop will explore the many design patterns of this elegant art form. After creating these swirling patterns of colors, each participant will print their own 15 x 45 inch silk scarf.. We will learn the traditional grinding of ink sticks, and also practice a more modern method of applying ink using Boku Undo liquid inks, in lotus bowls using sumi brushes. After creating fascinating concentric circle patterns, we will then make prints of the designs on large sheets of rice paper.
10) Workshop:Leaf onto Paper: Nature Printing on Handmade Paper

Course Description: Without a press, it is possible to print the detail and beauty of plant forms from gardens and the wild. Your handmade paper sheets (or any unsized or Oriental paper) provide the ideal surface for hand printing. The various techniques of the simple relief process have both craft and fine art applications. No printing experience is necessary.

12) Workshop: Papermaking from Invasive Plants
Instructor: Louise Barteau Chodoff
Date and Time: Sept. 20 & 21. 10AM-4PM Both days
Fee: Nonmembers: $100 HRT members: $85
Course Description: Learn how to make beautiful hand-made paper from non-native plants such as Garlic Mustard and Japanese Knotweed. This workshop begins on Saturday with the communal activities of harvesting, preparing, cooking, and beating the fibers. On Sunday we will use the fibers to create beautiful sheets of paper for participants to take home. This workshop teaches all the basics of papermaking by hand from plant fibers while supporting local biodiversity by using non-native invasive plants that compete with and drive out native plants that supply food and cover for local wildlife.
