Family Papermaking Days

On selected weekends throughout the year, Historic RittenhouseTown offers Family Papermaking Workshops. There are approximately ten workshops every year. The papermaking day will give participants an opportunity to make numerous sheets of beautiful paper. The workshops will begin with a basic introduction to the art of papermaking. Students will learn many new techniques to create truly unique sheets of paper. The students will have time to apply their new skills to make a variety of colorful papers. This is a great workshop for first time papermakers, or is a day at the vats for more experienced papermakers. Please call for upcoming workshop dates.


Easter Egg Hunt

Historic RittenhouseTown holds an Easter Egg Hunt every year on Palm Saturday with the help of the Fort Mifflin Historical Society. Children age twelve and under search for candy and prize eggs that have been hidden throughout the site. The Visitors Center will be open during the hunt. This is a great opportunity to introduce young children to RittenhouseTown.


Summer Paper Art Workshop Series

Every summer Historic RittenhouseTown offers a series of Paper Arts Workshops that address a variety of topics, such as, Papermaking, Bookmaking, Nature Printing, Clay Monoprinting, and many more. The workshops are held on weekends throughout the summer and are taught by artists from throughout the Philadelphia area. Whether a novice or a veteran all benefit and enjoy the amazing artistic experience that our qualified instructors create. Many of the workshops are designed for teachers or for families to enjoy together. Workshops are held in a restored eighteenth century Barn in a picturesque part of Fairmount Park. If you are interested, please call to have your name added to the mailing list to receive the Summer Workshop Brochure, which is printed and distributed in May.


Papermill 5K Run

On the Saturday after Labor Day, Historic RittenhouseTown holds the Papermill Run 5K Race. The race attracts many runners from throughout the Greater Philadelphia Region. The racecourse leads through a beautiful section of Fairmount Park along the Wissahickon Creek. The race is open to all applicants over twelve years of age. Prizes are awarded to different age categories for men and women. After the race, RittenhouseTown will be open to visitors. Refreshments will be available.


Christmas Tours

Historic RittenhouseTown offers Christmas tours each year on a weekend early in December. The Roxborough Garden Club decorates the village for the season with fresh cut greens. The tour offers an historic interpretation of the buildings and the site. Our Gift Shop will be open these two days, if you are interested in looking for unique holiday gifts. This is a wonderful chance to bring your family to RittenhouseTown during the winter months.
