Addition to the Collection

Featured from The Papermaker, the Newsletter of Historic RittenhouseTown
Volume 16, Number 2

Historic RittenhouseTown was fortunate to receive two additions to its growing museum collection, thanks to the generosity of Aldrich Bowler, the owner of Snake River Pottery for over forty years and the husband of the late Rittenhouse descendent Lillian Deissler Bowler, who was also related to the local Margerum Family. A circa 1840 American Arrow-Back Windsor Chair (cleverly converted with a "potty seat" much later) and a 19th century stool were shipped from Idaho to Philadelphia. The pieces were examined by David Borodin, the Vice President of Frisk & Borodin Appraisers, and Betty Davis, Historic RittenhouseTown member and longtime friend of the Bowler Family. Both pieces have a tradition of having a Rittenhouse provenance and originally had been in a local Wyndmoor home. However, according to Mrs. Davis, the Rittenhouse connection "is a mystery and one that is probably connected with the Margerum Family as well." Additional information will be sought on the pieces from other family members with the results published in future editions of our newsletter.
