New Rittenhouse Letter Added to Collection

Featured from The Papermaker, the Newsletter of Historic RittenhouseTown
Volume 18, Number 1

Using funds raised from the 2003-04 Annual Appeal, Historic RittenhouseTown was able to purchase, using the online bidding service of eBay, a November 17, 1798 letter to John Nicholson, a Revolutionary War financier and a partner of Robert Morris, signed by David Rittenhouse when he was the Treasurer for Pennsylvania and the Director of the State Loan Office. The simple, straightforth letter reads:

Dear Sir,

I have but one Iron Chest in my possession & that a very small old one. I had another large chest belonging to the Loan Office, but it was delivered several years ago either to you or to Colonel Johnson. I don’t recollect which.

Yours,

D. Rittenhouse
