Will I be able to see the Paper Mill Building?

The paper mill structure no longer exists. The mill building was taken down sometime after Fairmount Park took control of the site in the late nineteenth century. In the mid-1890s Historic Rittenhouse Town Inc. hired archeologists to search for the site of the mill. The base of the second mill has been located and Historic RittenhouseTown Inc. hopes eventually to be able to expose part of the base of the mill and include this in historical interpretation of the site.

What else is there to see in the area?

There are many other things to see in the area. Historic RittenhouseTown is very close to the other historic sites in Germantown and the other Fairmount Park Houses. In Germantown there are thirteen historic sites including Cliveden, the well maintained home of Benjamin Chew and the site of the Battle of Germantown, the Deshler Morris House, which served as the summer "White House" for George Washington, and the Johnson House, which was a stop on the Underground Railroad.

Historic RittenhouseTown is located in Fairmount Park so there are many walk and bike trails in the immediate area. Fairmount Park also contains many historic buildings, for example, Strawberry Mansion, Laurel Hill, and the Japanese Teahouse. Our Links Page has more information on these and other sites.
