Rittenhouse Bakehouse
The Bakehouse, constructed in the mid-18th century, contains one ground
floor room, an attic and a cellar. In some documents, it is referred to
as a springhouse, suggesting that the cellar may have been used as a cold
cellar. The ground floor room contains a full-width, 16 foot fireplace
with a bee-hive oven. It is one of the largest fireplaces in a colonial
Pennsylvania home. The building is now used to conduct colonial cooking
demonstrations. (labeled 207A on map)
